Official Blade Runner 2049 Short Bridges The Gap Between Original And Sequel

Warner Bros. and filmmaker Denis Villeneuve have unveiled the first of three short films that take place in between Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Villeneuve's upcoming sequel Blade Runner 2049.

Titled 2036: Nexus Dawn, the film sees Niander Wallace, played by Jared Leto, introducing his new line of replicants to the world.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

With a script by Michael Green ("American Gods") and Hampton Fancher ("Blade Runner"), and cinematography by Roger Deakins ("Sicario"), Blade Runner 2049 follows the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Opening in theaters on October 6, the film also stars Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Lennie James, Jared Leto, Barkhad Abdi, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, and Ana de Armas.
